HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: SERVICEMAN CRIPPLED IN MINE BLAST URGED TO PAY DAMAGE

A former Armenian contract serviceman has revealed to the paper an
incredible story about being forced to pay damage for an exploded
mine that had made him crippled.

Suren Gaboyan (32), who lost a foot in the tragic incident, said he had
been required to pay the money over allegations of spoiling the mine.

“This story, of course, sounds extremely incredible. But our
correspondent’s attempt to obtain comments from the Ministry of
Defense went vain. So we now cannot but rely on Gaboyan’s recount,”
writes the paper.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
