Erection of controversial Mikoyan statue postponed

Haykakan Zhamanak: Erection of controversial Mikoyan statue postponed

The statue of Anastas Mikoyan, the Soviet-Armenian leader widely
criticized for Stalin-era repressionist policies, will not be erected
in Yerevan in 2014, the paper says, citing the chief architect.

The sculpture was initially scheduled to be installed in Armenia’s
capital until the end of this year.

“We are in a conservated state, with no progress at all. We have what
we had before, both the decision and the statue. But considering other
problems of more primary importance, we are now dealing with them.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we have given it up,” Tigran
Barseghyan told the paper, reportedly giving no guarantees that the
sculpture will be erected next year.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
