Increase in prices for electric power to strike at large consumers –
Nagorno-Karabakh premier

STEPANAKERT, July 23. /ARKA/. The increase in prices for electric
power will strike at large consumers, while others will have their
price increase subsidized by the government, Nagorno-Karabakh Prime
Minister Ara Harutyunyan said Tuesday at a news conference.

On August 10, Artsakhenergo, the republic’s electricity-supplying
company, starts selling electric power at 41.85 drams, including VAT,
per one KWt-hour in daytime and 36.85 drams, including VAT, at
nighttime instead of the 38 and 33 drams set in 2013. ($1 – AMD
406.84).

Explaining the reason of the increase, the premier said that
Artsakhenergo buys electricity from various sources, including some
Armenian power-generating plants. The company buys it from Karabakh
hydro power plants and Armenian providers at 25 drams (including
taxes).

He said that the loss of 5 drams is taken into account in calculating
the price as well as salaries of the company’s employees – 8 drams and
also 3 drams for possible technical disorders.

Harutyunyan said investors demand to set the same prices as in Armenia
for building small hydro power stations.

Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission has approved almost a
10 percent rise in electricity prices for households allowing the
Electrical Networks of Armenia distributor to charge 41.85 drams per
1 kWh of electricity during daylight hours (from 7:00 to 23:00), up
from current 38 drams and 31.5 drams for night hours (from 23:00 to
7:00), up from current 28 drams. The decisions come into force on 1
August 2014. ($ 1 – AMD 406.84). –0-

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
