Kev Orkian to star in Infidel musical

David Baddiel’s show announces cast

Musical comedian Kev Orkian is to lead the cast of David Baddiel’s
musical The Infidel.

He will play Mahmoud Nassir, the role played by Omid Djalili in the
original film – a man raised Muslim who finds out his mother was
Jewish.

Orkian came to prominence in 2010 when he made the semi-finals of
Britain’s Got Talent with his act, playing an Armenian who allegedly
learned an Elton John number from a dodgy CD.

The Infidel cast also includes Mina Anwar, who played PC Maggie Habib
in Ben Elton’s sitcom The Thin Blue Line, alongside Andrew Paul,
Melanie Marshall, Melanie Masson, Stewart Scudamore and Steven Serlin.

The show opens at Theatre Royal Stratford East in London in October.
Baddiel adapted his original movie screenplay, which

The Infidel has a book and lyrics by Baddiel, who also wrote the film,
with music by Erran Baron Cohen, Sacha’s brother.

Last week Baddiel said he was considering directing a movie loosely
based on Maxine Carr, the girlfriend of Soham murderer Ian Huntley now
living under a secret identity.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
