Buenos Aires City Legislature Adopts Statement To Commemorate April

BUENOS AIRES CITY LEGISLATURE ADOPTS STATEMENT TO COMMEMORATE APRIL 24 AS THE DAY OF THE FIRST GENOCIDE OF THE 20TH CENTURY

YEREVAN, April 7. /ARKA/. Buenos Aires city legislature has unanimously
adopted a statement to commemorate April 24 as the “Day of the First
Genocide of the 20th Century”, on the “99th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide”, press office of Armenia’s foreign ministry reported.

The initiators were Virginia Gonzalez Gass and Maria Raquel Herrero.

The Legislature also approved a project submitted by the legislator
Pablo Ferreyra to ask the Ministry of Education to perform “the
necessary arrangements for individual school districts and schools in
the City to carry out curricular activities alluding to the ‘Day of
action for tolerance and respect between people'”, referring to the
Law 26.199 that commemorates the genocide suffered by the Armenian
people every April 24.

The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the twentieth century.

Turkey has been denying it for decades. The Armenian genocide was
recognized by tens of countries. The first was Uruguay that did so
in 1965. Other nations are Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland,
Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece,
Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 42 U.S. states. The
Armenian Genocide was recognized by the Vatican, the European
Parliament, the World Council of Churches and other international
