HOMENETMEN POWER THROUGH CHAMPVILLE

BEIRUT: Homenetmen continued their recent surge under Bosnian head
coach Allen Abaz as they recorded their second successive victory
after downing Champville 73-63 at Mezher during round 11 of the
Lebanese Basketball League Tuesday.
Fresh from defeating league giants Riyadi 70-63 Saturday, the Armenian
side impressed again on home turf, and led from the moment the game
began, ending the first quarter 28-18 ahead.
Although Champville managed to stay in contention, they rarely
threatened Homenetmen’s lead except for in the final quarter, when
they leveled the score at 57 with three minutes to go.
But with one of the most efficient American duos in the league,
the home side managed to turn the screw in the closing stages.
Both Terrence Leather and Dion Dixon kept the scoreboard ticking in
the final minutes, to give Homenetmen a precious victory that saw
them overcome Champville in seventh place at 4-7.
Leather led the scoring for the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds,
while Dixon added 22 points and seven assists. Young forward Hayk
Gyockhyan also contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, and Sevan
Ketejian added seven points.
For Champville, Georgian point guard Giorgi Tsintsadze was their
highest scorer, with 23 points, nine assists and six rebounds, while
Philip Tabet added 23 points.
Serbian center Vladan Vukosavljevic was ejected in the final two
minutes after he received two technical fouls for challenging the
referees, rounding off a disappointing performance with eight points
and nine rebounds.
Champville, the 2011-12 league champions, are now in eighth place,
with 3-8.
Elsewhere, Sagesse will look to bounce back following their bitter
96-92 defeat against Amchit after overtime last Friday, when they
visit bottom side Hoops at Murr stadium.
The green side have lost two of their last four games, which saw them
surrender top spot and slide to third place at 7-3.
Randy Culpepper is widely expected to take to the court for his
second match, after struggling to find his range against Amchit,
finishing with a paltry six points. Chris Daniels is also expected
to start instead of Charles Thomas.
Sagesse will likely miss their small forward Elie Rustom, who has a
minor hand injury.
Meanwhile, Hoops are fighting against relegation, and their campaign
has been far from convincing, having only won once and lost nine games,
putting them in last place.
