Effective promotion of light industry in Armenia may create up to
50,000 new jobs

YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Successful implementation of light
industry fostering strategy in Armenia may create from 15,000 to
50,000 new jobs within one decade, Hovsep Poghosyan, co-chair of the
Union of Light Industry Employers of Armenia, said Thursday at a news
conference.

“Armenia’s strategies of fostering shoe and textile industries imply
creation of 15,000 new jobs, but in the event of success, this figure
can be tripled,” he said.

The Union of Light Industry Employers of Armenia signed with the
government a memorandum yesterday for implementation of the light
industry promotion strategy.

However, Poghosyan said there is still plenty to do before the
achievement of this goal – it is necessary to make some legislative
changes to ensure favorable environment to the light industry and to
solve the raw skin export problem.

he said.

Poghosyan also pointed out the necessity of training specialists to
form equal conditions for domestic manufacturers and importers and to
use the capacity of Armenian communities overseas.

Suren Bekirsky, the other co-chair of the Union of Light Industry
Employers of Armenia, on his side, said that the strategy implies the
government and the private sector’s joint efforts for development of
the country’s light industry.

He said that the list of the steps was ready and expressed hope that
the document wouldn’t be shelved all the plans would be put into
reality.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
