ORIENTALIST DOES NOT EXCLUDE RUSSIA’S ACTIVATION IN KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. The Russian Federation strengthens
its position in the South Caucasus through Armenia creating a suitable
platform for expanding its influence in the Middle East. Director of
the Institute of Oriental Studies of National Academy of Sciences
of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan expressed such a
viewpoint at the course of the meeting with the journalists. “We
cannot exclude the fact that at some stage, when Russia manages to
restore the influence of the former Soviet Union in the Middle East,
Moscow will also display activeness in the issue of the settlement of
Karabakh conflict. At present, Russia discusses issues related to the
creation of the unified system of air force defense with Armenia,”
Ruben Safrastyan stated as reported by “Armenpress”.

According to him, weakening of USA influence and strengthening of the
position of Russia are noticeable in the Middle East by the wish of
the Americans.
