ARMENIAN HEALTH MINISTRY DENIES RUMORS ABOUT CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN ARAGATSOTN PROVINCE

YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s health ministry issued a
statement today denying the allegation posted on one of Armenian
websites of cholera outbreak in Aragatsotn province’s villages of
Oshakan, Voskevaz and Voskehat.

The ministry’s press office reports that not a single cholera case
has been recorded in Armenia since 1998.

Some 54 residents of the mentioned villages were taken to Ashtarak
and Yerevan hospitals on August 28 and 29 with infective intestinal
disease symptoms.

The examination of drinking water has shown that it was polluted.

“Intense chlorination has immediately been started to kill the
bacteria.”

Specialists toured households and explained people how they can
avoid infection.

The epidemiologic study has showed that there was a single-time
pollution of drinking water, and further examinations of water have
found no bacteria here. —0—-
