WE MUST WORK TO ENSURE ARMENIA’S PRESENCE AT VILNIUS SUMMIT IN ANY POSSIBLE FORMAT – NAIRA ZOHRABYAN

YEREVAN. – Head of Armenian parliament’s standing committee on
European integration Naira Zohrabyan said she understands Sweden’s
disappointment over Armenia’s decision to join Russia-led Customs
Union.

At the same time Naira Zohrabyan, as a citizen of Armenia, is
interested in continuation of the European integration, she told
Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“I understand position of Swedish FM Carl Bildt and disappointment of
our European partners. However, we must seek opportunities to ensure
Armenia’s presence at Vilnius summit in any possible format. I do
not think we must consider our talks ruined,” she noted.

However, MP Zohrabyan expressed hope that the sides will reach
consensus to continue important work carried out with the EU.

Earlier this week Swedish FM Carl Bildt tweeted that Association
Agreement with Armenia is now off the table.

Following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between
Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin,
Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and
subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
