“Concerned about attacks vs Arshamyan, Saghatelyan & other activists
in Armenia. Effective investigation & accountability must be ensured”,
Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks says in
a tweet.

On September 5 Haykak Arshamyan, Project Coordinator at the Yerevan
Press Club, and Souren Saghatelyan, member of the Council of the
Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, were hospitalized
with severe injuries. Both were taking part in the actions of protest
against Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union.

Meanwhile, the Armenian police are trying to refute the statements
about their passivity. According to the recent media reports, the
civil activists in Armenia undergo violence and the police are blamed
for passivity. The police consider such statements to be groundless.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
