ELDERLY ARMENIAN WOMAN ATTACKED IN ISTANBUL

YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS. 80-year old Markırıt Camkosoglu was
attacked by an unknown person in Feriköy neighbourhood of Å~^iÅ~_li
District, Istanbul.

As reports “Armenpress” citing Istanbul-based “Agos” newspaper,
Markırıt Camkosoglu highlighted that she went to market on August
17. Upon her return, she saw a suspicious person of middle height
inside the building. “When I opened the door, he assaulted me from
behind. As I fell down, he tried to kill me. My bag, with 70 Turkish
Liras inside, was on the table; he took it and ran away. It is 50
years now I have been living here, but nothing like this happened to
me ever before,” Markırıt Camkosoglu said.

Previously, Murat Nazaryan, accused of attacking old Armenian women
in Samatya, launched in Istanbul. who kept silence at the course of
the previous court hearings because of the absence of his lawyer,
at the course of the second court hearings did not cease to repeat:
“I don’t remember! I did not commit that assassination!” When the
Police arrested Nazaryan he stated that it is possible that he is
the one who committed that crime. Afterwards he announced that he
had said that under the psychological pressure.

The next court hearings are scheduled to be held on November 4.

Supposedly the representatives of the injured party will also attend
the session and face the suspect.

One of the assaulted women, 87-year-old Turfanda AÅ~_ık, lost an eye,
while the other woman was robbed and severely injured. On December
28, 2012, Maritsa Kucuk was stabbed seven times before her throat
was slit at her home in Samatya. Two other attacks were carried out
in the same month against elderly Armenian women in the Samatya and
Bakırköy districts as well. Most recently, 83-year-old Sultan Akyar
was attacked in Samatya, after which she underwent eye surgery.
