ARAVOT: BRUISES FOUND BELOW CAPTURED SOLDIER’S EYE (VIDEO)

09:48 14.08.13

The family of Hakob Injighulyan, the Armenian conscript held hostage
in Azerbaijan last week, is said not to have recognized him during
the interview with the Azerbaijani media.

“He was very frightened, discouraged and unidentifiable. He seemed
to be wishing to conceal his fear but wasn’t able to,” a cousin,
Arman Injighulyan, was quoted as telling the paper.

His impression is that the soldier has been subjected to violence,
the paper comments.

“The uniform sleeves should have been rolled up but they weren’t
during the interview. He wasn’t in a short-sleeved [shirt]. And that
caused a suspicion that there were bruises on the body. The bruise
below the eye was inflicted there, I think. It was seen on the video,
but they had obviously used grease paint.

“If he had had a problem, he would have come to Yerevan, instead of
going to Azerbaijan. Considering the previous incident that saw a
shepherd captured in Azerbaijan commit suicide after an interview,
he had fears that the scenario would be repeated,” said Injighulyan’s
cousin.

He further reportedly expressed complaints about the ICRC mission’s
work.

“The Ministry of Defense is doing everything, but the Red Cross is
still waiting. I think it could have urged for rapid procedures,”
says the paper.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
