GALLUP International association Market Super’ poll shows Armenian
customers’ `supermarket preferences’

A GALLUP International association Market Super’ poll conducted in
Yerevan last November involved 1,066 respondents.

In answering the question `Why do not you make purchases at
supermarkets?’ 31% of the respondents said supermarket prices were too
high, 24% said there was no supermarket nearby and 23% did not need to
make purchases at supermarkets.

Also, citizens refused to visit supermarkets for political and civil
reasons. Specifically, 2% of the respondents refused to visit
supermarkets because they are owned by oligarchs, 2% said that they
made purchases at small shops to support them, 2% were dissatisfied
with the quality of products purchased at supermarkets.

Besides, 3% of the respondents did not visit supermarkets `on
principle,’ 12% did not like self-service, 5% did not like the area,
and 8% pleaded health reasons.

On the other hand, 76% of supermarket customers took advantage of the
sales, and 24% did not.

Also, 92% of the respondents bought everyday food at supermarkets, 26%
made purchases on festive occasions, 1% bought tobacco and 10%
essentials.

The respondents’ expenses averaged:

3% up to AMD 1,000 (about $2.4)

30% AMD 1,000 to AMD 3,000

49% AMD 3,000 to AMD 10,000

4% from AMD 20,000

As regards the respondents’ preferences, the situation is as follows:

64% preferred YEREVAN CITY, 54% STAR, 23% SAS, 7% Kaiser, 6% Evrika,
6% Zovk, 5% Arev, 3% Moskvichka, 2% VAS.
Only 1% of the respondents preferred other supermarket chains.
