RUSSIA TO PRESERVE RIGHTS OF ARMENIAN CITIZEN ACCUSED OF CRASH IN MOSCOW REGION: FOREIGN MINISTRY

YEREVAN, July 19./ARKA/

Russia is assuring Armenia that the rights of the allegedly guilty
driver, an Armenian citizen, will be preserved as the law enforcement
bodies conduct a comprehensive and unbiased investigation, the press
office of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Friday.

The truck, loaded with 10 tons of crushed stones, toppled over while
entering a highway in southwestern Moscow on Saturday, careening into
the bus and practically tearing it in two.

According to the Russian health ministry, out of 63 passengers 14 died
immediately on the scene and four in hospitals. Some 46 were injured.

On Monday, the driver of the truck, Hrachya Harutyunyan, an Armenian
citizen, was jailed. He will remain in custody until September 13
pending trial.

According to the source, deputy foreign minister of Russia Grigory
Karasin had a meeting with Armenian ambassador Oleg Yesayan on Friday.

The officials have discussed the crash details.

“The Russian side has assured that a comprehensive and unbiased
investigation will be conducted while preserving the rights of
the defendant. The sides have also expressed mutual concerns about
ignominious attempts to speculate on this tragedy in order to spark the
sentiments which fully contradict to the Russian-Armenian friendship,”
the ministry said, RIA Novosti informs.-0-
