JEWS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRST TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE – YAIR AURON (PHOTO)

YEREVAN. – Many Jewish intellectuals have stood with the Armenian
people, sympathized with the pain and tragedy of the Armenians,
and showed an interest in the problems of our people.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan noted the aforesaid during his talk
Wednesday with Yair Auron, renowned Israeli historian, scholar and
expert specializing on Holocaust and Genocide studies.

To note, Armenian capital city Yerevan was the venue recently for
the official presentation of the Armenian version of Auron’s book,
entitled The Banality of Indifference, which is about the Jewish
Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide.

Sargsyan congratulated the historian on the Armenian publication of
his book, and thanked Auron for his invaluable work and contribution.

As per the President, it is impossible to count all the prominent
Jewish intellectuals, including Auron, who have reflected on the
Armenian Genocide.

In his turn, Yair Auron thanked President Sargsyan for the warm words
and the love and appreciation which the Armenian people have showed him
during his current visit to Armenia. The Israeli historian stressed
that he shares the double pain of the Armenian nation: Being subjected
to genocide, and the policy of denial of this crime.

In Auron’s conviction, the Jews should have been the first people to
recognize the Armenian Genocide. He noted, however, that significant
positive changes have taken place among Israel’s civil society,
and with respect to this matter.
