Armenia: Election Race Kicks Off In Proshyan Village

ARMENIA: ELECTION RACE KICKS OFF IN PROSHYAN VILLAGE

An official campaign to elect the governor of the Proshyan village
(Kotayk region) has kicked off, two months after the former headmen
was shot to death in tragic circumstances.

The four candidates running for election are Alexan Alexanyan,
Tsolak Grigoryan, Arthur Muradyan (Republican Party of Armenia)
and Vova Sahakyan (Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun).

Galust Lazarian, a self-nominated non-partisan who also had joined
the race withdrew his candidacy before the campaign start.

Proshyan’s former governor, Hrach Muradyan (ARF-D), was killed by an
unknown gunmen on April 2. The party’s local organization will hold
later Tuesday a candlelight vigil to commemorate him.

A source from the ARF-D Supreme Body has our correspondent that
yesterday marked the 50th birth anniversary of the assassinated
governor.
