Karabakh war veteran speaks of meeting with Armenian premier

19:59 – 07.06.13

Reserved Colonel and Karabakh war veteran Volodya Avetisyan told
Tert.am about his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsyan.

`All the problems we raise were thoroughly discussed. He agreed that
the veterans have serious problems. He was willing to help,’ Avetisyan
said.

As regards the possibilities, the premier admitted the government’s
financial problems, but the government will think of what it can do.

`In any case, we arranged to meet in a month and discuss specific
proposals. The minister of social affairs took part in the meeting as
well. They promised to meet with the minister of defense and tell us
what they can do for us,’ Avetisyan said.

`One of our demands is that a law on freedom-fighters be adopted,
freedom-fighters receive sums equivalent to the consumer basket until
death, like in Russia, killed freedom-fighters’ families have the
right to free medical treatment, as well as a double increase of
pensions,’ he said.

`I think it will foster patriotic spirit, and the young generation
will see freedom-fighters are respected,’ Avetisyan said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
