Armenian National Congress holds protest in front of prosecutor general’s office

19:22 – 07.06.13

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) party held its traditional Friday
protest in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The protesters demand release of four activists, including Tigran
Arakelyan, who was sentenced to six years.

Vardan Malkhasyan, a former political prisoner and participant in the
Karabakh war, said that the `fighters in the Armenian people will go
on fighting until they achieve results.’

`This is not a country of law, but rule of lawlessness. As a former
political prisoner, I will struggle to my last breath for this country
to become a country of rule of law.’

Some people were imprisoned only because police found ten bullets I
their homes, whereas an arsenal was found at the house of the ruling
circles’ representative, but no one has been held responsible.

`The authorities do not punish criminals because they are relying on
the criminals,’ he said.

Levon Zurabyan, Head of the ANC parliamentary group, said that
`criminals are at large here. Moreover, they hold government posts.
But honest people that will not put up with this reality – the
authorities keep them imprisoned for years.’

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
