Estonian-Armenian agreement on education, research cooperation on the way

TALLINN, May 31, BNS – The Estonian Ministry of Education and Research
has sent out for opinions the draft of a resolution on concluding an
agreement on educational and research cooperation with Armenia.

The aim of the agreement is to promote bilateral cooperation in the
fields of education and science and technology. Both countries
consider it important to establish direct contacts between general,
vocational and higher education establishments, adult education
institutions, youth organizations and research institutions, an
explanatory note to the draft says.

The proposed forms of cooperation are exchange programs, joint
projects, exchanges of delegations and conferences. Estonia and
Armenia also attach importance to reciprocal teaching of one another’s
language, culture, literature and history.

As examples of previous collaboration, the ministry highlights a
cooperation agreement that Tallinn University and the Yerevan State
Linguistic University entered into in 2008. The universities of Tartu
and Yerevan also have close historical ties as several renowned
Armenian cultural figures have studied in Tartu and in the early 20th
century Armenian student organizations were active at the Estonian
university.

There are Sunday schools in Tartu and Tallinn that offer courses in
the Armenian language and culture. The Ministry of Education and
Research has received Armenian delegations interested in the Estonian
education information system EHIS, general education organization and
teacher training.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
