ARF-D, RULE OF LAW PARTY HAVE TO THINK OF FUTURE – EXPERT

Speaking of the May 5 elections to Yerevan’s Council of Elders, the
sociologist Aharon Adibekyan told journalists on Monday that the Rule
of Law party and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun
(ARF-D) have to think of their future.

“Parties like the ARF-D and Rule of Law get stronger only through
cooperation with the ruling forces. After gaining the necessary
potential, they are capable of an independent struggle, but fail,”
he said.

By transforming to a party, the Armenian National Congress (ANC)
bloc turned into a force identical to the Armenian National Movement
(ANM) party and thus lost its significant role.

“The question is how they can return to politics, and the only point
is that they will play their role in Armenia’s Parliament,” he said.

The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) has won its electors back. As to
how it managed to is a different question.

With respect to the Barev, Yerevan (Hello, Yerevan) bloc’s 8.48% in
the May 5 elections, Adibekyan said that the Heritage party, which is
architect of the bloc, actually retained the 8% for its leader Raffi
Hovannisian – his personal rating has remained unchanged for years.

With respect to Hovannisian’s votes in the Feb. 18 presidential
election, Adibekyan said that he was either “lucky” or that was
“the irony of fate.”

The ratings of Yerevan’s incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan and of the RPA
were almost identical because ten of the ten voters were well aware
they had to elect a manager mayor rather than a political figure,
Adibekyan said.

The opposition failed to politicize the elections, he concluded.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
