Armenian international school in Dilijan to host children from 60 countries

April 27, 2013 | 22:26

Leading Russian businessman of Armenian descent Ruben Vardanyan shared
his thoughts about the idea of international school in Dilijan in
an interview with Novaya Gazeta.

He noted that this will be a boarding school for teenagers from 13 to
19, in which the teaching is conducted in English.

`The idea of Dilijan School is that it is a possible alternative to
learning in Western countries, and will serve an educational
institution, whose graduates have a good chance to enter any
university, including those of Ivy League,’ Vardanyan said.

According to him, Dilijan School is an international school, which
will host children from at least 60 countries, including Armenia and
other CIS states. The international composition of students will be
secured by the fact that in October 2013 the school will become a full
member of the United World Colleges community, which will allow
recruiting students in different countries, including Europe, through
a network of UWC national committees.

`The project was born in my family. I am a father of four children,
and for me and my wife this topic is relevant. It is important that
our children have good education and at the same time remain committed
to the values important to us,’ said the businessman.

In addition to personal reasons, according to Vardanyan, there are
other motives to establish Dilijan School. In particular, Russia has
maintained close ties with the republics of the former Soviet Union,
and the school is one of the ways of integration.

`Despite the fact that the teaching will be conducted in English, we
will be offering an advanced courses on Russian and Armenian languages
and literature in accordance with the national curriculum for native
speakers,’ he said.

Ruben Vardanian is the co-Head at Sberbank CIB, Head of the SKOLKOVO
business school’s Brand and Fundraising Committee. He has worked at
Troika Dialog since it was founded and has been the CEO since 1992.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
