Immigration unable to confirm Artur brothers departure

Immigration Department has been unable to confirm the departure of one
of the two notorious Armenian brothers from the Maldives.

However, the President’s office on Thursday in a statement said Artur
brothers are no longer in the Maldives nor do they currently hold
visas to return.

The Artur brothers who left Kenya after accusations that they were
global conmen, criminals and drug traffickers have surfaced in the
Maldives sparking concern over their presence in the country.

Immigration Controller Mohamed Ali confirmed that one of the brothers
Artur Sargasyan had left the Maldives on March 31. But the Immigration
cannot be sure whether the other brother had left the Maldives as
stated by the President’s office.

`We are currently looking into it as there are questions surrounding
the second brothers’ exit from the Maldives. But we cannot confirm it
in anyway,’ Mohamed Ali said.

Controller attributed the mystery of Godazin Sargasyan’s exit to some
issues in the border control system. When asked whether the brothers
had entered the Maldives on forged passports, Controller was quick to
rule out the possibility.

The President’s office had said that the President, along with the
relevant authorities are looking into any irregular dealings during
the time the Artur brothers and their associates were in Maldives and
will determine if there were any breaches in protocol or conduct that
need to be addressed.

`The President was briefed in January that the Artur brothers were in
the Maldives, had not broken any laws and were being monitored by the
police as a precaution. The administration later decided to ask them
to leave once their visa extension expired,’ the statement said.
