SEVAG SAHIN BALIKCI’S PARENTS WILL APPLY TO THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

YEREVAN, APRIL 1, ARMENPRESS. Sevag’s family is dissatisfied with
the verdict made by the Diyarbakır Air Force Command Military Court
to sentence Turkey’s Armed Forces gendarmerie unit soldier Sevag
Å~^ahin Balıkcı’s murderer Kvanc Agaoglu to 4 and a half years
of imprisonment. The court’s verdict caused dissatisfaction in the
Turkish society as well.

“Armenpress” reports citing Turkish mass media, Sevag’s family
has announced that they will appeal against the court decision. In
this regard Sevag’s family lawyer Cem Halavurt stated: “The verdict
satisfied neither the public, nor us. We witnessed that as in case of
previous murders now too the truth was not disclosed. People expected
that the murder would be discovered entirely but this didn’t happen
after all. The testimony of the accused and the witnesses do not
match which is proved in documents. It is obvious that testimony was
received from soldier witnesses of the murder through violations and
threats”. Among other things the lawyer noted that they will appeal
to the European Court of Human Rights. Sevag Å~^ahin Balıkcı was
murdered in Turkish Army on April 24, 2011.
