YEZIDIS IN ARMENIA SENT A PROTEST-LETTER TO THE GOVERNMENT OF RUSSIA

15.03.1310:20

Yezidis living in Armenia have sent a letter of protest to the Minister
of Communications and Mass Media of Russia, Nikolay Nikiforov. The
reason of the protest is that a number of sites and newspapers
in Russia are violating the rights of Yezidis and are introducing
them as Yezidi-Kurds. The author of the protest-letter is “Sinjar
Yezidis National Union” NGO. The organization mentions in the letter
that according to the results of the census held in Russia, there
is no registered Yezidi-Kurd nationality, but there are Yezidi and
Kurd separate nationalities. However, some media introduce Yezidis
as Yezidi-Kurds. Representative of the organization Hamlet Smoyan
considers this impermissible and says that it is against the laws of
Russia and especially the demands of President Vladimir Putin.

“This initiative isn’t only ours. Before our organization, many
other Yezidi organizations from different countries sent requests
to Nikiforov. This is the fight of all Yezidis and we are a part
of this fight”, – Hamlet Smoyan said. The whole statement of the
organization read here. Yezidis living in Armenia express hope that
the RF authorities will respond to their request.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
