Number Of People With Acute Respiratory Illness Grew In Armenia Last

NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH ACUTE RESPIRATORY ILLNESS GREW IN ARMENIA LAST WEEK

YEREVAN, February 28. /ARKA/. Number of people with acute respiratory
infection (ARI) has grown sharply, almost by 1.4 times, in Armenia,
according to the monitoring carried out by the country’s ministry
of health.

Some 3,579 cases and 5,033 cases were recorded on February 11-17 and
February 18-24 respectively, the press service of the ministry of
health reported.

Number of medical emergency calls with ARI complaints has also gone up.

Today there are 152 people with ARI and 46 with mild form of pneumonia
in hospital in Armenia’s regions. The respective numbers of people
under treatment in Yerevan is 300 and 109.

Some 20 patients are currently in moderately severe conditions
under intense therapy in Yerevan hospitals, due to late diagnosis
and treatment.

In February about 210 laboratory tests were carries out: H1N1 type
A was found in 64 samples and type B in 21 samples.

Complications of the diseases are recorded particularly among
vulnerable groups, such as people with concomitant diseases, pregnant
women, children, and etc, according to the report.

The ministry of health care that if required, people are provided
with the necessary anti-virus medicaments in out-patient clinics
and hospitals for free. Monitoring is carried out in schools and
kindergartens to find out reasons for absence.

According to the World Health Organization, H1N1 pandemic has already
lost its 2009 strength and is now considered season flu.

The WHO says flu-rate is now quite high in many of European
and South Caucasus countries. As many as 12 people died from
