INCIDENT AT PRESS CONFERENCE WILL NOT AFFECT ARMENIA’S INTL IMPACT – ARMENIA’S ENVOY TO PACE

Interfax, Russia
Feb 19 2013

Leader of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (PACE) David Arutyunian said opposition activists’
attempt to derail a press conference by international observers cannot
impact Armenia’s international rating.

“The incident came as a surprise to me. But I don’t think it can
influence Armenia’s rating,” he told the media.

A press conference by representatives of the Office for Democratic
Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and
Co-operation in Europe was cut short by civil activists who call
themselves “The Turning Point” earlier on Tuesday.

As the international observers were presenting a report on the
February 18 presidential elections, young men broke into the audience
and demanded that they leave Armenia and stop interfering in Armenia’s
internal affairs.

The press conference was cut short and the speakers had to leave to
the audience’s shouts and hisses.

No police officers could be seen in the audience, an Interfax
correspondent reported.

The civil activists subsequently left and the press conference restarted.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
