A group of citizens gathered today in one of the auditoriums of
Yerevan’s Dramatic Theater in what they described as a `Meeting of RA
Citizens’.

Speakers presented their views regarding the February 18 presidential
election and called for the creation of a civil front based on the
example of several European nations.

Organizers said that while they supported no political party, members
of exisiting [parties were welcome to join them.

They noted that the February 18 election would not spell the end of
the world and that the civil front is committed to staging a long-term
struggle.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
