HELSINKI ASSOCIATION CONCERNED OVER PERSECUTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

07.02.13

The Helsinki Association for Human Rights, which, among other issues,
deals with army murders, investigations into army crimes and legality
of Armenian citizens’ service in the Defense Army of Nagorno-Karabakh,
has reported that the human rights activist Ruben Martirosyan is now
a victim of persecution.

Mikael Danielyan (see photo), Chairman of the Helsinki Association for
Human Rights, notes that the association, particularly Mr Martirosyan,
has in recent two years revealed numerous violations of law by
investigative agencies and other relevant bodies.

“However, Armenia’s authorities have not only failed to adequately
respond to the reports, but launched persecution of Mr Martirosyan,”
says the statement.

Helsinki Association strongly condemns this practice and demands an
immediate end to the persecution of the human rights activist.

Helsinki Association demands guarantees of Armenian citizens’
security inside their country, end to violations of human rights and
legalization of Armenian citizens’ service in the Nagorno-Karabakh
Defense Army.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
