EU COMMITTED TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS AS REGARDS STEPANAKERT AIRPORT

The EU member-states are committed to international standards and
against any actions that may aggravate tension, Head of the EU Mission
to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia told media commenting on EU’s attitude
towards opening of the Stepanakert Airport, Trend reports.

Kobia said that the EU would like to contribute to the dialogue of the
conflicting parties. It is very important for the EU to stay within
the international law and avoid any steps that may create tension in
the region. “We must strive for a dialogue,” he said.

Earlier, Head of the Civil Aviation Department, NKR Government, Dmitry
Atbashyan said that the Stepanakert Airport is ready for exploitation.
It is equipped in line with the up-to- date requirements and has
highly qualified staff and personnel. The airport has a certificate of
compliance with the international standards. The airport is equipped
with up-to-date satellite radio location and navigation systems and
other necessary equipment. The length of the runway is 2km 300m.
Unique system of radio navigation ensures landing even in case
of nil visibility. The designed capacity of the airport is 100
passengers/hour.
