PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE’S STATEMENT CREATES ANTI-ARMENIAN MOODS IN GEORGIA

Armenia’s presidential candidate, epos expert Vardan Sedrakyan’s
statement about subjecting Georgia’s territories to annexation after
becoming a president has created serious anti-Armenian moods in
Georgia, both inside political circles and common people as well.

Speaking to Tert.am, chairman of Multi-National Georgia NGO Arnold
Stepanian said, the Georgians do not know this person well and
treat him seriously with his statements appearing in the press,
media publications. “Do you imagine what comments are being made,
just like would be in Armenia if one of the Georgian presidential
candidates stated he would subject Armenian territory to annexation,”
Stepanian said, adding that it is very easy to create such moods in
Georgia as “the thrown seed here immediately gives harvest.”

Not to make the situation hotter and not to become part of the game,
the Multi-National Georgia is going to undertake certain steps after
the January 17 visit of the Georgian PM Bidzina Ivanishvili to Armenia,
to smooth the consequences of the statement.

In particular, the representatives of the Armenian community are going
to urge the Georgian Armenians not to give their votes to the epos
expert and are going to address to the Armenian political forces to
hear their position over Sedrakyan’s statement.

Stepanian said the situation becomes worse because of the statement
of Georgia’s Foreign minister Maya Panjikidze, who stated that though
Georgia is not involved in the discussions of the conflict between
Armenia and Azerbaijan, it defends Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity
and sovereignty.

Arnold Stepanian said they consider it right to undertake steps after
Georgia’s PM’s visit to Armenia.

“It would have been wrong to create an artificial climate and support
the direction, game and tunes being created by political forces
and figures. We have noticed that during the past week obvious
efforts were made to create negative atmosphere before the visit
of the Georgian PM to Armenia and it is being reflected either by
artificial speculations of different topics of the Georgian Armenian
community and the different statements of Georgian political figures,
including the statement of Vardan Sedrakyan,” Arnold Stepanian said.
