Five Armenians killed in plane crash in Congo

YEREVAN/KYIV. Dec 1

Five citizens of Armenia were killed in the crash of an Ilyushin Il-76
plane in Congo Brazzaville, Nelli Cherchinian, a spokesperson for the
Armenian Civil Aviation Authority, told Interfax.

“The crew of the plane that crashed in Congo included seven people,
five of them citizens of Armenia. All of them have been killed,”
Cherchinian said.

The Armenians worked in Congo under a contract and were piloting a
plane belonging to the local airline Air Service.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is verifying media reports
that the plane’s captain was a citizen of Ukraine. “The Ukrainian
Foreign Ministry is currently verifying this information,” Foreign
Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov told Interfax.

It was reported earlier that about 30 people were killed in the crash
of an Il-76 in Brazzaville. About 20 others were injured and
hospitalized.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
