ISRAEL NURTURES VERY SERIOUS MOOD FOR THE SUPPORT OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION

Israel is nurturing very serious mood for the support of Armenian
Genocide recognition, Baruch Ben Neria, ex-ambassador of Israel to
Armenia and Georgia, lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
said in Yerevan when replying to ArmInfo’s question.

According to him, the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition
is discussed more and more actively in both public and political
circles of Israel, even in the Israeli Knesset. However, this issue
also has very many rivals, who think that it is necessary to put off
the discussion of this issue, Baruch Ben Neria said. He added that
the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition by Israel is also
complicated by the fact that this issue touches on the interests of
the third country (Turkey). Though sometimes Israel has discrepancies
with Turkey, nevertheless, Baruch Ben Neria is sure that in the near
future these discrepancies will be settled, and this process has
already started.

To note, various committees of the Israeli Knesset have been
considering a resolution on the Armenian Genocide recognition for
several years, however, the resolution is not included in the general
agenda of the Knesset due to the strong resistance of the Israeli
Government.
