SERZH SARGSYAN’S VISIT TO LEBANON IS OF A CERTAIN IMPORTANCE NOT FOR THE ARMENIAN COMMUNITY ALONE, BUT FOR WHOLE LEBANON

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian community of Lebanon
highly appreciates the visit of the President of the Republic of
Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to Lebanon. In a conversation with “Armenpress”
the Editor-in-Chief of “Azdak” newspaper Shahan Kandaharian stated
this. Shahan Kandaharian said: “Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Lebanon is of
a certain importance and one can make several significant observations
regarding this. In conditions of the regional crisis the sides will
refer to such issues, which occupy an important place in political
discussions as well. Also the visit will support the activation of
Yerevan-Beirut intergovernmental relations. Armenia and Lebanon have
signed a number of agreements and this visit can be a new stimulus
for the realization of the aforesaid documents.”

According to Shahan Kandaharian in conditions of the Turkish factor in
the region in general and in Lebanon in particular the activation of
the Armenian-Lebanese relations can be considered a step of official
Yerevan towards balancing the situation. Kandaharian highlighted: “As
representatives of the Armenian side we have a number of privileges
in comparison with Ankara. Highly organized and developed Armenian
community can serve as a bridge for the efficient development of the
Armenian-Lebanese relations.”

The President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan paid an
official three-day visit to Lebanon on November 26. Serzh Sargsyan
had a meeting with the President of Lebanon Michel Suleiman. The
Presidents of Armenia and Lebanon highly appreciated the efficiency of
their meeting held in Beirut. The Presidents underlined the expediency
of the development of the reciprocal relations and the necessity of
strengthening ties with each other.

The President will pay a visit to Antelias and have a meeting with His
Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia on November 27.

The Armenian deputy of the Lebanese parliament Hakob Bagratuni informed
“Armenpress” about this. In addition he said that the President
will also visit “Haykazian” University and have a meeting with the
students. As to the meeting with the representatives of the Armenian
community of Lebanon it will take place on November 27.

The President will visit Zmmar Monastery. Hakob Bagratuni noted:
“Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Lebanon is of a certain importance not
for the Armenian community alone, but for whole Lebanon.” He also
mentioned that our nations have a lot of similarities.
