HERITAGE PARTY REP COMMENTS ON ARMENIAN RULING PARTY’S BEHAVIOR

Styopa Safaryan, Chief Secretary of the Heritage party, commented
on the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group’s step
aimed to thwart yesterday’s special meeting of Armenia’s parliament
on the initiative of four parliamentary groups.

“I think that the RPA majority should have been present at the
meeting. First, the language of their boycott was very bad. It means
‘We do not know who you are. Who are you to invite a meeting without
us or put issues on the agenda?’ This is not a way of talking to the
opposition,” Mr Safaryan told journalists.

“Second, there must not be dialogues lasting for months or weeks during
a year. Dialogue must take place every day. You must be remembering
the dialogue between the Armenian National Congress and the ruling
coalition. That was not an event like weeks of dialogue,” Mr Safaryan
said. The parliament’s failed meeting was a missed chance to listen
to the other side’s arguments.

RPA Spokesman, Vice-Speaker of Armenia’s parliament Eduard Sharmazanov
stated yesterday that the forces proposing a special meeting of
Armenia’s parliament must realize that “the political majority is
not to dance to their tune.”

With respect to the offstage talks that the political consultations
on the Prosperous Armenia Party’s initiative are nothing but a theater
show, Mr Safaryan said: “I cannot understand one thing: if it is not a
serious process why is the concern so serious? But I have an impression
that, on the one hand they say ‘it is a show’, on the other hand I can
see most serious concern – ‘all of you are going to be unmasked now’.”

By and large, everything can be viewed as “a show” in Armenia.

However, political forces should each “speak of its own shows.”

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
