Minsk, 6 November: Belarus and Armenia have identical approaches
towards the United Nations and the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe, Belarusian First Deputy [Foreign] Minister
Alyaksandr Mikhnevich told journalists in Minsk on Tuesday [6 November]
following a round of consultations between the foreign ministries of
the two countries.

“Consultations with our Armenian colleagues were very fruitful and
constructive,” Mikhnevich said. “We discussed cooperation within the
framework of international organizations and found the coincidence
of our approaches towards both the UN and the OSCE and organizations
in the post-Soviet area, such as the CIS [Commonwealth of Independent
States], the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization] and other
organizations established in recent year. We’ve always supported each
other and agreed to maintain this line.”

Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan confirmed
the coincidence of the two countries’ standpoints regarding major
international issues.

According to Mikhnevich, during the consultations, the sides reviewed
the existing legal basis for bilateral relations. “We have about 60
agreements of various levels, but there are still certain deficiencies
in our legal basis,” he said.

“We agreed that we would soon complete work on some accords and will
look for an opportunity for them to be signed in a nice setting.”

Mikhnevich noted that the foreign ministries of Belarus and Armenia
were expected to hold the next round of consultations in the spring
of 2013.

“Next spring Armenia will start chairing the Committee of Ministers
of the Council of Europe, and our Armenian colleagues will have
serious and responsible work to do,” he said. “We want to coordinate
our stances and approaches towards both this organization and other
European institutions.”

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
