Defense Ministry Responds To Concerns Over Deadly Sick Soldier

DEFENSE MINISTRY RESPONDS TO CONCERNS OVER DEADLY SICK SOLDIER

06.11.12

The Ministry of Defense has responded to the No Silence initiative’s
November 5 statement expressing concerns over the health of the
Armenian conscript who was diagnosed with an acute blood disease with
a month’s delay and demobilized from service ahead of time.

In a video footage disseminated by the group, the parents of the
soldier, Artur Kocharyan, speak of the disease (which is claimed
to have been diagnosed with a month’s delay), complaining about the
Ministry’s attitude to their son.

“Sharing the parents’ grief and concern and taking an understanding
approach to their desperate steps to raise the problem in an effort
to see their son’s rapid recovery, we declare that all the competent
bodies of Armenia’s Defense Ministry have acted in compliance with
the legislation on conscripts’ social security and taken exhaustive
steps to ensure his diagnosis and treatment

Artur Kocharyan, like any other conscript, can benefit from free
high-quality medical assistance only in the Defense Ministry’s medical
institutions in Armenia or, upon necessity, any other healthcares
centers on the country’s territory at the expense of the relevant
bodies,” the Ministry says adding that the terms and procedures of
further compensation are defined by the Government.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
