Russian official: Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved only
through negotiations

Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 3 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved only through negotiations,
deputy chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal
Assembly, co-chairperson of the Azerbaijan-Russia inter-parliamentary
commission Svetlana Orlova told media in Baku today.

She added that Russia supports the conflict settlement within the OSCE
Minsk Group’s activity.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S. – are
currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
