The Secretary of the Navy of the United States of America, Ray Mabus,
met with Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanian, in Yerevan
on Monday.

cooperation, which will be continued next year.

press briefing.

Minister Ohanian thanked Mr Mabus for visiting Armenia. “High-ranking
officials paid mutual visits and held meetings… We have determined
two directions of cooperation. The first is development of the
peacekeeping potential, which implies expansion of cooperation in
military medicine and humanitarian demining. The second is defense
reforms, particularly reforms in military education, improvement of
human resource management,” Minister Ohanian said.

Mr Mabus thanked Minister Ohanian for a warm reception. The U.S.

attaches importance to close cooperation.

He commended Armenian peace-keepers’ involvement in Kosovo and
Afghanistan. He noted the Armenian defense ministers’ initiatives to
implement reforms in Armenia’s armed forces. The U.S. Navy cooperated
with Armenia’s Ministry of Defense in military planning. Military
exercises have been organized in recent two years. Further work will
be carried out in this field, Mr Mabus said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
