YEREVAN.- World famous French-Armenian musician Michel Legrand has
arrived in Yerevan to participate in the 6th Yerevan International
Music Festival.

The concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the musician will be
held on Saturday. Legrand will play his famous works and will also
perform as a singer and conductor accompanied by the Armenian State
Philharmonic Orchestra.

`Armenia is a special country for me. For 10 years I lived with my
Armenian grandfather who told me a lot about Armenia. He also played
saz [musical instrument], he taught me how to accompany Armenian
musical instruments. He had a strong and sad love for Armenia,’
Legrand told reporters on Friday.

Composer is full of energy and enthusiasm. Legrand said two days ago
he promised to compose a concerto for viola and orchestra. He also
plans to make a love movie.

`My happiness formula is giving birth to music. I am a passionate
musician,’ he emphasized.

Asked what he would like to get as a present for his birthday, Legrand
said: `I do not need anything…. may be just Martiros Saryan’s
painting.’

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
