Elkhan Suleymanov, Member of Azerbaijan Parliament from Shamakhi,
Chairman of Azerbaijan Delegation to the Euronest PA, Member of PACE,
has appealed to Martin Schulz, the President of European Parliament
in connection with the resolution on Ramil Safarov adopted by the
European Parliament, Suleymanov told Trend today.

The resolution discussing the Case of Ramil Safarov, an event
completely outside the scope of Rule 122 on which the urgency procedure
of your House is based, was a shock for those of us always listening
and willing to follow to the words of Europe, the statement said.

Watching the debate, and the vote, we realized the European Parliament
actually had a debate on Hungary and its internal political struggles,
and that some politicians simply used this case to attack one or
another part of that Hungarian dynamic, the statement said.

We feel it is highly disturbing that less than 10 per cent of the
members of the House can vote on such a paper, in a procedure which
was rushed and where many discussants were simply unaware of what is
the situation in Azerbaijan and in Armenia. The members of the S&D
Group, your political family even changed their votes afterwards,
having mistakenly supported the text, the statement said.

“We would like that such debates are actually informed, and actually
on the basis of real facts in Azerbaijan,” he said. “Because, the text
and debate produced on the 13th had little to do with the war in the
occupied territories or Azerbaijan – it was a political affair between
Hungarian MEPs and their respective allies. We ask of you not to take
our situation lightly, and to value our efforts to find a peaceful
solution to the occupation that has prevented us from achieving our
potential as a free and democratic state for so many years now.”

The resolution on Ramil Safarov was passed by the European Parliament
on Sept. 13, 2012.

According to the resolution, Safarov’s pardon causes regret.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
