Armenia: Syrians Say `Thanks, but No Thanks’ to Karabakh Idea

A little while back, your very own Tamada posted a piece about how
Armenia was hoping refugees from the ongoing violence in Syria might
be coaxed into moving to Nagorno-Karabakh. Well, it turns out that
Syrian-Armenians are saying `we’ll take a rain-check’ to that idea.

When Yerevan sent up the `send-them-to-Karabakh’ trial balloon,
officials in Azerbaijan, which is struggling to regain the territory,
got a little purse-lipped. It turns out they should not have worried.

Separatist authorities in Karabakh report that no Syrian has expressed
a desire to relocate to the territory. `Nevertheless, we are ready, in
case we receive requests, to help accommodate our compatriots from
Syria,’ said de-facto Karabakh government spokesman David Babayan.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
