A senior Iranian official announced that Iran is enlisting Armenia’s
aid to resolve the rapid drying of Lake Oroumiyeh.

MohammadJavad Mohammadzadeh, the head of Iran’s Environment Protection
Organization, announced today that Iran and Armenia have agreed on
transferring water from Armenia to counter the critical fall in Lake
Oroumiyeh’s water levels, Eurasia Review reports.

He remarked that hot weather and a lack of precipitation have brought
the lake to its lowest water levels ever recorded.

Armenia and Iran recently signed an agreement to cooperate on
environmental projects.

Iran maintains that the drying of Lake Oroumiyeh would be a “national
environmental catastrophe” that could also have adverse effects on
neighbouring countries.

Iranian officials have reported that half of the lake, a surface area
of more than 3,000 square kilometres, has dried up and turned into
salt fields.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
