During any elections the Armenian community of Georgia supports the
authorities. It seems that the situation has changed this time, and
this is accompanied by arrests, President of the Javakhk Compatriotic
Union Shirak Torosyan told reporters today.

“Many analysts insist that these arrests have a political pretext,”
Shirak Torosyan declared, noting that it’s necessary to raise the
issue in international structures.

“The arrests and persecutions of Armenians of Georgia are directly
connected with the forthcoming parliamentary election,” Shirak
Torosyan said.

Ex-MP Melik Raisyan and Javakhk Armenian Georgy Mkhchyan are persecuted
for providing office to the “Georgian Dream” opposition coalition,
he added.

Shirak Torosayn called on the Georgian authorities to demonstrate
restraint in their actions.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
