AZERBAIJAN UNWILLING TO PUT UP WITH STATUS QUO – ARMENIAN EXPERTS

Azerbaijan is showing his unwillingness to put up with the status quo
and the political situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process,
the political scientist Sergey Minasyan told Tert.am as he commented on
Azerbaijan’s consistent acts of sabotage coinciding with high-ranking
officials’ visits to Armenia.

“On the other hand, by means of such incidents Azerbaijan is trying
to prove the war threats are not a political bluff,” Minasyan said.

The military expert David Jamalyan told Tert.am that the recent logic
of the negotiations is the probable reason for Azerbaijan’s actions.

“The logic is getting the maximum from the negotiations by means of
blackmail – entire Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan behaves as if it were
ready for war, but it does not resume hostilities thus making major
concessions. In exchange it must get what it wants in a peaceful way,”
he said.

The Armenian side must be ready for further provocations by Azerbaijan
during high-ranking officials’ visits to Armenia.

With respect to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statement
condemning Azerbaijan’s actions, as well as her promise to speak of it
during her visit to Azerbaijan, Minasyan said the military retaliation
by the Armenian side is much more effective than Cliton’s statement.

“Such statements play their role, not decisive, however,” he said.

Jamalyan believes that Azerbaijan’s provocation was aimed to see the
US’s response to the blackmail. “Clinton’s response showed it did not
work. In fact, it is common knowledge Azerbaijan is not ready for war.

Otherwise, they would not wait for any nation’s consent. Being ready
for war means gaining a swift victory,” he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
