SOCCER: A WALK IN THE PARK FOR ARMENIA IN FRIENDLY AGAINST KAZAKHSTAN

Soccer | 05.06.12 | 22:49

Armenia scored a 3-0 victory hosting Kazakhstan in a friendly Tuesday
night as part of continuing preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup
qualifying tournament starting in September.

Striker Gevorg Ghazaryan scored twice before Yura Movsisyan’s third
goal at the end of the first half. The second half of the game ended
goalless despite Armenia’s having ample goal scoring opportunities.

A minute’s silence was observed at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan
before the start of the match for the three Armenian soldiers killed
in an Azeri cross-border incursion on Monday as well as the 15 Kazakh
border guards killed on an outpost near the border with China last
week. Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and his visiting Kazakh
counterpart Adilbek Jaksybekov attended the game.

The Armenian national soccer team is expected to play its next friendly
match against Belarus at Yerevan’s Hrazdan stadium on August 15. The
game will be the last before Vardan Minasyan’s side engages in the
qualification campaign. The Armenian Football Federation says the
August match will also be a sort of testing for the reconstructed
Hrazdan stadium before it hosts the highly anticipated Armenia v
Italy game in October.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
