Soccer: Greece Edge Out Armenia

GREECE EDGE OUT ARMENIA

May 31 2012

Greece completed preparations for the European Championship finals
by beating Armenia 1-0 courtesy of a Kiriakos Papadopoulos strike.

Fernando Santos’ side faced going to the finals in disarray after
failing to win in any of their four previous friendlies, including
a disappointing 1-1 draw against Slovenia in Kufstein last Saturday.

The 24th-minute strike from Papadopoulos will have restored confidence
in the Greek side, who begin their finals campaign against hosts
Poland in the opening match next Friday.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
