ARMENIAN PRESIDENT ABSTAINS FROM NATO SUMMIT IN DISAGREEMENT WITH ITS POSITION ON REGIONAL CONFLICTS

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan did not attend the NATO Chicago
summit in disagreement with the draft resolution on the settlement
of regional conflicts, Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian
told heads of Armenian public, political and religious organizations
in Chicago.

“The draft resolution of the NATO Chicago summit contained superficial
formulas of the settlement of conflicts in the South Caucasus and
Moldova. Despite a certain difference from the Lisbon resolution,
the formulas still disagreed with the approach of the OSCE Minsk
Group cochairmen, who were entitled to resolve the Karabakh problem,”
he said.

Approaches declared by the resolution do not correspond to the
statements and decisions made with regard to the Karabakh conflict
in recent years, the minister said. The Armenian Foreign Ministry
cited his words to Interfax.

“This may harm the Karabakh settlement negotiations and endanger
the fragile regional situation, especially against the backdrop of
the unprecedented growth of Azeri military expenditures and militant
rhetoric of the Azeri administration,” the minister said.

“Due to these concerns, the Armenian president decided not to attend
the NATO Chicago summit,” he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
