ZOLYAN WISHES TO SETTLE ISSUES WITH ASHOTYAN IN LEGAL PLANE

The former rector of Yerevan State Linguistic University after Valeri
Bryusov Suren Zolyan came to meet with journalists carrying a big
folder. He brought the applications against Minister of Education and
Science Armen Ashotyan, the court’s answers, the ministers respond
and the publications in the press on these processes.

Suren Zolyan has applied to court to appeal against the minister’s
reprimand, the announcement that the university issues diplomas with
specialties that are not taught in the university and the legality
of the decision to dismiss him from the rector’s post.

“The issue is not personal or political, but legal,” the former
rector said.

According to him, the court rejected the first application saying
that it was written under the application “University’s rector Suren
Zolyan” , but he is no more a rector. Zolyan advises to annul all the
documents he has signed before April 17 by the same logic. The former
rector is well aware of the atmosphere in the university today, too.

“Unfortunately, I must say that today the university doesn’t exist as
an independent body as it is managed by the minister directly, or in
absence of the minister, by the head of his staff Mher Ghazaryan. The
lecturers and students were mainly implied the idea “Do you see
what happened to Zolyan? Who are you to resist? And that does have
its influence. People think they will do whatever they want,” Suren
Zolyan said.
