MOST ARMENIANS DO NOT EXPECT PARLIAMENTARY POLLS TO BE FAIR

The majority of the population of Armenia does not expect the
parliamentary polls to be fair, the Public Center for Political Studies
says. The organization held social polls with 1320 people involved,
739 (56%) of them were women and 581 (44%) were men. Only 32% expect
the elections to be fair, 68% have a contrary view, ArmInfo reports.

Many people questioned say that they will vote for individuals rather
than parties (31%). Some will vote for parties or their representatives
that did something useful for the population (28%).

This includes Gagik Tsarukyan (20%), Serzh Sargsyan (19%), Artur
Bagdasaryan (17%). Only 11% believe in parties’ promises. 8% offer
to sell their votes.

Sociologists state that 54% of the population gets information from TV
and 19% from press. 54% have no permanent jobs or have temporary jobs.

16% work in the private sector, 18% for the government, 12% are
students. 44% of people questioned have higher education, 17% of them
were technical specialists. 34% were aged 50 and older. The social
polls were carried out from March 20 to April 7.

Armenia will have parliamentary polls on May 6. 8 political parties
run for parliament: the Republican Party, Prosperous Armenia, Orinats
Yerkir, Heritage, Communist Party, Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Dashnaktsutyun, Democratic Party, United Armenians and the Armenian
National Congress.
